The violin’s variations of sound and expression know no bounds. The musician’s hands and arms connect the instrument with the movements of the body and brain’s motor and emotion networks. Each string on the violin can produce a gliding stream of tones and timbres, a musical continuum that is not divided into scale steps. Contrary to piano and guitar, the tone of the violin is ceaselessly alive in the hands of the musician. The violinist can shape and modify tyhe timbre and expression of the tone from moment to moment.
The present CD invites the listener on an exploratory journey into sound, movement and emotional expression. Twentieth century music extends the violn’s means of expression far beyond the limits of classical music. However, classical and contemporary music have in common the experience of coherence and developement, form and contrast, recognition and variation, gesture and drive, expectation and surprise.
