Rarities of Piano Music 2003 ©
Here is a selection of items from the most recent festival of piano rarities in the historic castle of Husum in Schleswig-Holstein. We hope that it gives
a good impression of the variety of music that is always offered. As usual, all the pieces were recorded live and unedited. Since there are still comments from some listeners to the CDs about the recorded sound, the photograph taken by Nicolai Froundjian (the pianist is Fredrik Ullén) may help to show the size of the room. The audience numbers about 160 and there are five rows of seats. The ceiling is also quite low. While this gives an impressive close contact with the audience – it presents a particular challenge to the pianists using a full-sized Steinway, and naturally to the recording engineers. Over the years the sound has been refined, but it would be misleading to try and impose a concert hall acoustic. Therefore we hope that the interest in the musical content easily outweighs any drawbacks of the venue.
