Fathers and sons – in Danish music! ©
In collaboration with Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester (The Danish Philharmonic Orchestra, South Jutland) Danacord is issuing five CDs with music by pairs of Danish composers, fathers and
sons.
This is the final CD in the series. The first four were devoted to the Hartmann, Gade, Langgaard and Hamerik families.
Of course composers often beget sons who to a lesser or greater extent inherit the father’s talent and wish to follow in his footsteps, and in the history of music there are indeed several examples of this, also of whole generations of composers: Puccini and Hartmann, e.g. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s father, Leopold, was a competent composer and W.A. Mozart’s youngest son, Franz Xaver was by no means untalented. Richard Wagner’s son Siegfried was at one time quite a popular composer of operas, especially the lighter kind.
The Helsted family produced several musicians and at any rate three composers, of whom Carl and Gustav fit into this series of music by fathers and sons.
