Adam Ørvad
Adam Ørvad’s musical commitment spans a wide variety of musical forms and genres. Characteristic is the search for new ways – and exploring the limits of the instrument and his own abilities. In the repertoire there is both a selection of the cornerstones of the accordion literature, new works come into being in collaboration with a long list of composers – as well as countless innovative arrangements and transcriptions for accordion and a variety of chamber ensembles. Additionally, musical theatre and opera can be mentioned – and finally Adam Ørvad is also an authority in folk music from the Balkans and the Middle East.
Adam Ørvad was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Music by James Crabb and Geir Draugsvoll. In 2002 he graduated with top marks, and in 2005 he made his debut from the soloist class with much critical acclaim with one of the most comprehensive programs ever played on the instrument. Adam Ørvad is an active soloist and chamber musician, appearing internationally in numerous contexts, and is associated with a variety of Danish and international ensembles – including Ensemble Modern, Frankfurt and musicFabrik | Ensemble für Neue Musik, Cologne. He has performed at international festivals such as Festival de Radio France et Montpellier – Le Salon de la musique à la Vilette, Paris – International Ferienkurse für neue Musik, Darmstadt – Musik Triennale, Cologne – Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival – Ars Musica, Brussels – Musica, Strasbourg – Holland Festival – Easter Festival of Contemporary Chamber Music, Sofia – International Festival of Chamber Music, Plovdiv Festival de la Música Contemporánea de la Habana, Cuba – Suså Festival, DK – and many others.
