What is a “live” recording? A recent award-winning album was made from three or four concert perfomances, plus hourlong “patching” sessions for further corrections. The result is actually very good and sounds surprisingly spontaneous. It is a tribute to the artists, producers and editors, as well as the technology which enables digital editing to be almost seamless compared with mechanical tape-splicing.
There is a further advantage that most of the coughs and ringing mobile phones, which repetedly plagued every perfomance, have been removed. But “live”…?
In Husum we have to live more dangerously, and what you hear on this compilation from the 2004 festival of “Rarities of Piano Music” is precisely what the
audience heard during the eight evenings.
