Piano Sonata in b Minor ©
Liszt made the first schetches for his Piano Sonata in b Minor in 1851, but it was largely composed in 1852-53. He expended great pains on this work, one of’ his compositions, in any genre, to bear a severely classical, un-literary title. The fact draws attention to its purpose;Â it is not a work of description, illustration or evocation, though it expresses strong and unmistakablc emotion and countless images can be read into its melodies, gestures and tonal progress ifthe listener so desires.
