Niels Muus
Niels Muus, conductor, studied at the Music Conservatory of Aarhus (Denmark), “Ecole Normale de Musique” (Paris) and at the Califomia State
University (Northridge, Los Angeles). In 1989 Niels Muus joined the opera in Münster (Gemany) and from 1992-99 he was Principal Conductor at the
Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck (Austria). Since 1999 he has been Conductor and Casting Director at the Vienna Volksoper.
Niels Muus gives concerts throughout Europa and he is a Guest Professor at Gothenburg University, at the Opera Studio Nederland in Holland and at the “Claudio Monteverdi Conservatory” in Bolzano, Italy.
In 1999 Niels Muus received the Danish Broadcasting Prize “Bolero” for his promotion of Danish operas in Austria.

Langgaard’s only opera, Antikrist, is a philosophicalreligious opera about the decline and fall of western civilization – and in general a critique of modern ‘lifestyle’ and mentality. It is a prophecy of doom, and a warning against selfishness, arrogance and the absence of spiritual values. The message of the opera is one of disillusionment. Society, civilization and church have failed us, and only one thing remains: the individual’s personal relationship with God. And Langgard’s point is that music is able both to express ‘the spirit of the age’ and to show us the way to the divine.
