I have always been an admirer and lover of the music of the composer Frederick Delius, ever since I began to listen to it on the wonderful old recordings made under the direction of the British conductor Thomas Beecham. When the Danacord label came into being it became a privilege for us to extend the catalogue of Delius’s works on disc by offering some hitherto unrecorded pieces by him alongside more familiar repertoire: elsewhere in this booklet you will find them listed, and also details of some new issues we are planning to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth in 2012. I am really excited about these. But aside from new recordings, the Danacord catalogue will readily reveal that I have also long been interested in historic recordings, and not only of the music of Danish and Scandinavian composers. And so, as a further contribution to the Delius anniversary celebrations, the present volume is offered to cover that aspect of his output as well. I have been delighted to have my English friend and colleague Lyndon Jenkins, an expert on Delius and his recordings, to join me in this venture, not only to advise on the programme of music on the disc but also to contribute authoritative documentation. I hope that our joint tribute to a great composer will commend itself to our listeners.
