Otto Mortensen and the Danish Song ©
Otto Mortensen (18.8.1907-30.8.1986) was a vcsatile intellect in Danish musical life. As a qualified pianist in 1929 from The Royal Danish Academy of Music he worked as accompanist for Lulu Ziegler among others and as opera repetiteur at The Royal Danish Theatre for many years, just as he acted as a conductor in many contexts. In the 1930s and 1940s Otto Mortensen was particularly active as publisher of a number of educational publications intended for the many music schools that emerged in the interwar period and of playing instructions for recorder, violin and piano, and of choir schools etc. In 1956 he took a Master’s degree in musicology and was later employed as senior lecturer at the University of Aarhus, Department of Musicology.
