Some pieces have been taken from the “treasure chest” of unknown Russian piano music. As an encore Hamish Milne played Nikolaj Medtner’s (1880 – 1951) “Prélude (Hymn)” from the “Romantische Skizzen für die Jugend” op. 54 (1931), a lyrical treasure despite the self-imposed restrictions as regards the
technical requirements for the pianist, with a long-drawn out “ben cantando” melody which is typical of Medtner.
