Victor Schiøler ©
Danish pianist Victor Schiøler (1899 – 1967) who already as a teenager had studied with
Ignaz Friedman and Artur Schnabel, was without any doubt the most famous pianist of
his generation. Even today the number of his recordings exceeds those of most, perhaps all,
other Danish pianists.
His first recordings date back to 1924 in the acoustic era, when microphones and
electricity were unknown in recording. The energy in the sound itself provided the power
to the cutting needle for engraving the wax, from which pressing matrices were made. His
recording career continued well into the era of the long-playing record.
