Three of the shorter pieces ln Piers Lane’s recital are heard here. Sigfried Karg-Elert is now best known as a composer of organ music and pieces for the Kunstharmonium (Harmoniun d’art), a concert harmonium developed in France by Mustel, which enjoyed a brief success at the turn of the century. ln these works he often drew on the Bach tradition of tonal, polyphonic rnusic, but in other pieces he came close to being a rare example of a German Impressionist, shorwing influences of Scriabin’s harmony as well as Debussy and Schönberg. He wrote several sets of loosely-connecte short piano pieces and Filigran explores some of the delicate textures available.
