8th Festival of “Raritäten der Klaviermusik” ©

It would be a mistake to compare the very special collection of piano compositions presented on this CD – compiled from live recordings taken from the 8th Festival of “Raritäten der Klaviermusik” (Piano Music Rarities) at the Schloss vor Husum (20th to 27th August 1994) – with modern classic “samplers” of today since the intentions to publish these recordings as well as their pure contents are so diverse.
This diversity, which some commentators of the previous CD series of this festival from the years 1989-1993 airily considered to be a “hotchpotch” of mostly shorter piano compositions, is quite natural. The selections of works is primarily oriented towards the approval granted by the participating pianists to record their works, which somewhat restricts the possibilities of presentation from the start. Furthermore, it is our intention to present on the CD as many of the eight pianists performing at the festival as possible so as to be fair to each one. After taking all these prerequisites into account, it is inevitable that
a large number of the great piano compositions performed at the festival have to be omitted. Neveftheless, the resulting heterogeneous selection of seldomly
played piano compositions again bears witness to the fascinating spectrum of repertoires to be discovered beyond standard works.
