All of Chopin’s works with orchestra were written between 1827 and 1831. In other words, they were composed in his youth, while still studying with his teacher Józef Elsner at the High School of Music (1826-1829), in the final year he spent in Poland before leaving his homeland for good in November
1830, and in the ten months before he arrived in Paris in September 1831 (the French capital would remain his base for the rest of his life). Thereafter, Chopin devoted his creative energies to the piano solo, apart from a handful of notable chamber works. Even the Grande polonaise brillante and the aborted Third Concerto (Allegro de Concert) – not completed until 1841 and then only as a piano solo – were largely composed before he reached Paris.
