In opera you can really live out your feelings, for in opera you have the whole register: exuberant Joy, profound grief, aggression, hatred, anger, hysteria,
ecstasy etc., and it is in the arias that the emotional expression of the characters is concentrated.
In Romantic opera it is usually the tragic emotions that predominate. The characters suffer and yearn (especially the women), and we – the audience love
it!
In the operas these women are often in extreme situations where their whole existence is at stake, where it is a matter of life and death and often they are caught in the classic dilemma: morality and duty versus love.
